District Smokehouse

District Smokehouse

This project for District Smokehouse develops a bold and energetic brand identity that reflects the rich culture, flavor, and atmosphere of Southern barbecue. Drawing inspiration from the historic Plant Riverside District, the visual system blends industrial textures with vibrant, contemporary graphics. The color palette is intentionally striking, featuring deep blues, fiery reds, mustard yellows, and smoky purples—to evoke heat, spice, and the layered complexity of barbecue itself. Paired with heavy, condensed typography, the design captures a sense of grit and authenticity while remaining playful and eye-catching.

A central component of the project is the packaging design for the sauce line, where each flavor is given its own distinct personality while staying within a unified system. Bold labels wrap around glass bottles, using oversized type, heat indicators, and illustrative elements like peppers and smoke trails to visually communicate flavor profiles. The designs balance legibility with expressive detail, ensuring they stand out on shelves while remaining easy to navigate. The multi-pack carrier extends this identity, incorporating strong structural design and graphic continuity to create a giftable, retail-ready experience that feels cohesive and premium.

The overall brand system is designed to connect storytelling with product experience, appealing to both locals and visitors looking to take a piece of Savannah home. By merging references to Southern heritage with a modern, graphic-forward approach, the project positions District Smokehouse as both rooted in tradition and confidently contemporary. The result is a dynamic and memorable identity that celebrates bold flavors, local culture, and the communal spirit of barbecue.
