The "National Park Service App Rebrand" project, developed by Alex Beikos for the GRDS 408 course under Professor Sohee Kwon during Summer 2025, is an innovative redesign of the official NPS app, aimed at modernizing the user interface while honoring the agency's core mission of preserving national parks, monuments, and historical sites for public enjoyment, education, and inspiration. The rebrand introduces a finalized logo that evolves the original design, emphasizing a vintage aesthetic with a refreshed, contemporary feel through simple geometric shapes depicting mountains, animals, and trees, creating a balance between nostalgia and accessibility.
The app's redesigned screens prioritize intuitive navigation and visual appeal, starting with a streamlined Log-in page and a user-friendly Forgot Password interface for secure access. Multiple variations of the Home screen offer dynamic content tailored to users' interests, such as personalized recommendations and quick links to park information. The Explore section encourages discovery with interactive maps and detailed park overviews, while the Passes pages—featuring several layouts—simplify the process of purchasing, managing, and displaying entry passes, including annual options and special permits. Profile screens provide customization options, allowing users to track visits, save favorites, and update preferences across multiple views.
Extending the rebrand beyond the app, the project incorporates social media assets, including mockups for Instagram Posts and Stories, designed to engage audiences with captivating visuals of natural landscapes and calls to action for app downloads. This holistic approach enhances digital engagement with America's treasured outdoor spaces, blending functionality, heritage, and modern design.
